Nina Ricci’s Theyskens is known in the fashion world for bringing romantic stories and poetry to the runway. His spring and summer collection continued his beloved work. His sophisticated yet extremely gentle work showed off at Paris fashion week. With fashion critics harder than ever, Ricci wanted to go his way and ignore criticism bringing what he wanted on the table. “It’s also good to let people dream,” he stated before the show.
His show was certainly what people dream of. In a Ricci’s world he said he was inspired by dance, and dresses that each evolved their own shape; short in the front and long in the back." Imaginative gowns that were all special and diversified, yet all had the same sense of class and romanticism. “I wanted each girl to be her own story,” Theyskens said.
With Ricci’s inventive craftsmanship, he took an ordinary lingering Henley and added works of ruffles, cuts, pleating, toning, textures, and layering. There were Victorian inspired dresses that had a contemporary look. There were countless dresses with long and graceful trains, black tights, high-collars, and curvy sleeves accessorized with big pump heels. Even an “evil queen” appearance was made in a vintage grand orange coat.
Ricci decided to not play safe and it was something once again the crowd seemed to love. His way to tell romantic stories through his clothes is something no other designer has yet done. The collection takes the breath away everywhere of fashion lovers.
